30             Songs and Ballads
7     The first to go out
Was Milton and Jack; They made a big kick, And they never came back.
8     The crew that was there
You could n't count in a song; And one roll of spiced beef Lasted all winter long.
9     Now we leave the old camp
All covered with straw, Where the squirrels do chitter, And the hedgehogs do gnaw.
io The lice in the bunks Do merrily crawl, And they'll welcome the P. I.'s Who come back in the fall.
11      And now to conclude,
And to finish my song, I'll bid a farewell To poor little John.
12     If any jolly sportsmen
Do come to explore, They'll know Fergusson's camp By the pork rind on the door.
